about
“Mixed Blood Girls" is the powerful fourth track from upcoming Singles EP out on April 16, 2021.
“It’s (some of) my story as a mixed Secwépemc girl from the East Kootenays,” Miesha informs. “My dark skin and white features left me open to compliments on my ‘beautiful tan’ and when they found out it wasn’t, I was ‘too pretty to be an Indian.’ From ballet moms to dudes in bars, I’ve heard it all.” Mixed Blood Girls opens with full force and plays hard and heavy the whole way through.
Producer Leeroy Stagger says, "When Miesha sent over the demo for MBG I immediately got excited to record it. It’s a very important message but it also rocks pretty hard like all my favourite songs do. It also once again demonstrates her amazing ear for melody.
lyrics
M-m-m-mixed blood girls
Makes white people happy
to tell me that they like my tan
But this is the same skin
That my mama met me in
Been a brown baby all my life
Til some buddy called me white
My mama’s white, I’ve never been
Don’t tell me about the skin I’m in
I’m brown in the sun
And I’m brown in the shade
As a girl I’ve heard it all
“Too pretty” to be NDN
I’m brown in the sun
And I’m brown in the shade
As a girl it’s hard to know
Who am I? What am I anyways?
M-m-m-mixed blood girls
I didn’t live on the rez
I lived on stories instead
My papa kept the trauma from my sleeping head
Aunties uncles all dead
Can’t find my cousins anywhere
From what I’ve heard they’re not doing good
What a fucked up feeling, oooooh
What a fucked up feeling, oooooh
Generations of pain
Got privilege all the same
Dark exotic interesting
NDN? You weren’t expecting
Brown in the sun
And I’m brown in the shade
As a girl I’ve heard it all
“Too pretty” to be NDN
What a fucked up feeling, oooooh
What a fucked up feeling, oooooh
What a fucked up feeling, oooooh
What a fucked up feeling, oooooh

The title doesn’t lie; the latest from Christian Fitness puts slap bass at the center of their gnarled, punky songs. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 20, 2017
Great, wild post-punk from this Chicago duo who wrap bent-wire guitars around lockstep rhythms and wry, sarcastic vocals. Bandcamp New & Notable Jul 24, 2021
